What to Watch

In this week's Netflix selections, get different takes on the same hilarious situations from different members of a Los Angeles family, watch as a group of teenagers come to grips with the mysteries surrounding a classmate's suicide, and watch as Jerrod Carmichael offers a comedic perspective on hot-button issues in his NBC sitcom.

  • Life in Pieces - Season 1 - Follow the lives of three generations of the Short family. Set in Los Angeles, each episode offers four different perspectives on the events of that episode, each from a different member of the family.
  • 13 Reasons Why - Season 1 - After a teenager's mysterious suicide, Clay, one of her classmates, receives a set of tapes that could unravel why the young woman took her own life, unravelling the secrets of many of the other students. The plot thickens when Clay learns that other students have received taps as well.
  • The Carmichael Show - Seasons 1 and 2 - This NBC comedy stars comic Jerrod Carmichael as a fictionalized version of himself, and follows the exploits of himself and his family. The show often sets its sights on hot-button, serious issues, tackling them with a humorous bent.

Coming Attractions

Netflix will see a number of additions to its lineup in the next week, starting with Disney's The BFG, in which a young girl meets a friendly giant, who helps her defend humanity from some not-so-friendly giants. We also have the second part of Netflix's original series The Get Down, which follows a group of young musicians in the South Bronx during the creation of hip-hop. Finally, a young boy with magical powers goes in search of lost family artifacts that will help him fight an army of evil spirits in Kubo and the Two Strings.

  • Disney's The BFG - Based on the Roald Dahl book of the same name, this Steven Spielberg film follows the story of a young girl who befriends a giant. Together, they head to Giant Country in order to stop the vicious, man-eating giants from attacking the world of humans. Arrives April 6.
  • The Get Down: Part 2 - The second part of Baz Luhrmann's dive into the origins of hip-hop arrives to continue the story of a group of musically-talented young people as they try to put their stamp on the musical history of the South Bronx. Arrives April 7. - See on Netflix
  • Kubo and the Two Strings - Kubo, a one-eyed young boy, must defend against an army of evil spirits led by his aunts and grandfather, who stole his left eye when he was a baby. Aided by Monkey and Beetle, the magically-powered Kubo must find his father's armor if he has any hope of taking on his family. April 8.
